Snow history in Washington DC

The key book for the history of snow in Washington DC is: Blizzards and Snowstorms of Washington, D.C: A Photographic History of Washington’s Most Memorable Winter Storms., by Kevin Ambrose

which has a sequel (of sorts) Washington Weather https://web.archive.org/web/20030107095803/http://www.weatherbook.com/blizzard.html (archival); reviewed here on H-DC Citation: Michael R. Harrison. Review of Ambrose, Kevin; Henry, Dan; Weiss, Andy, Washington Weather: The Weather Sourcebook for the D.C. Area. H-DC, H-Net Reviews. May, 2004.

Streets of Washington documented the 1888 blizzard: http://www.streetsofwashington.com/2015/01/the-great-blustery-blizzard-of-march.html

More historical is Bernard Mergen’s 1997 Snow in America http://www.amazon.com/Snow-America-MERGEN-BERNARD/dp/1560983817 and his  “Slush Funds: A History of D.C. Snow Management,” 4-15 in Washington History Spring/Summer 1996, 8 (1) URL: http://www.jstor.org/stable/40073184 (requires JStor login)

Of course Washington’s most famous snowstorm is the Knickerbocker storm in 1922, which dropped snow at the rate of one inch per hour for a total of 28 inches (a record not equalled).
