The 2017 population estimate has been released: 693,972 (as of July 1), an increase of 12,802, which is 1.88%. This is an uptick in growth, which had slowed to 1.33% in 2016 and is similar to 2014’s 1.89%.

Where is DC’s population headed? Averaging the the growth rates of the past seven years at 1.98% 2018 should see Washington’s population pass 700,000 and reach approximately 735,000 by 2020. This is edging toward the 1970 population of 756,510.
