141 houses were considered and 96 of those released back out from the program on condition that the owner would voluntarily house war workers (as per a signed agreement). Fewer houses commandeered meant fewer properties to track and manage. Of the houses operated by the USHC, slightly over one-third still exist — mainly those in Northwest north of M Street and west of 16th Street.
